The girls and Jakes, actually. Suckers for promos, we went to Spicy Fingers in Greenbelt for happy hour. P40 lang on select drinks.
Well, we ended up having two pitchers of margaritas, while Jakes ordered 2 mugs of beer. Nachos galore were care of Mader Zannie and Madz.
Laughing trip sobra. Ganyan ang mga gurang. Maagang mag-umpisa. Maaga ring matapos. Kasi maaga pang gumising, bago pa magtilaok ang manok.
Nakakatawa nga kasi just when we were about to leave, they dimmed the lights. Parang-- okay, paalis na ang mga gurang. Pwede nang madilim. Ngeh!
Anyway... that was fun.

September 18 - Funeraria Paz
Went to the wake of a friend's father. It was held at the Funeraria Paz in Manila Memorial Sucat. Nice naman ang facilities. A big leap from the old funeral parlors along Araneta Ave.
Kasi even from the other chapels na katabi n'ya, kapansin-pansin ang presence ng buffet table. Just grab a bite kung gutom ka.
And we did. May carbonara, Jamaican patties, buko pie, assorted goodies from Red Ribbon, chicherya... may beverage dispensers din with orange juice, iced tea and coffee.
Tapos, since the one who died was a great artist, there was something like a mini-exhibit of his works sa chapel. What a nice despedida party.
Blog entries?

September 17 - Credit Card
Kelan ba mauubos ang aking credit card utang? Just when I'm on my way to recovering from my debts, may mangyayari. The cycle just goes on and on... neverending... hanggang kamatayan na siguro.
Anyway, today I paid one of my credit card bills. Akala ko yesterday ang deadline. Thank goodness sa maling akala. Saved ako from penalty (September 19 pa pala ang deadline, hehehe).
Speaking of credit cards, a friend told me that Standard Chartered sends you an SMS whenever you make a purchase (haven't verified this, though). Pag nanakawan ka ng credit card, malalaman mo kung ano na ang pinagbibili ng damuhong magnanakaw and charging to you.
Maybe credit card companies should also be sending an SMS reminder every time your bill is almost due. That will be a simple but helpful innovation. Don't you think so?

September 16 - Planning
It's that time of the year when our clients are all agog over their communication plans for next year. Plano nang plano. Lahat naman ng pinaplano napapako. Ang daming gustong gawin, wala namang pera for implementation. Anubeh?
Like, did you know that airtime for a 30-sec commercial on primetime TV now costs P280,000? Next year expected ang cost to increase to P300,000/spot. Ang mahal! A P1 million media budget will only get you 3 spots! Joskohday!
Kung gusto mo pang gumamit ng celebrity endorser, the more well-known ones probably P3 million minimum talent fee. Mygollywow! Sana nagartista na lang ako. Sayang, di ko kasi yun naplano e.

September 15 - Military Tanker on the Road
Did you know that military tankers don't have plate numbers? So, exempted sila sa coding. Wow.

September 13 - Back to Work, Back to Walking
My belly is making its presence known. I can feel it like a salbabida in my body. So today, I started doing my morning brisk walking routine again.
After taking a bath in the office, nagdatingan na ang mga tao. May ilang nagcomment na parang I lost weight daw. (Really? Aba-- effective!)

September 12 - Family
Finally, now that Andy's sick and excused from going to school, we were able to spend some time together. Not exactly quality bonding time like a family vacation. But the fact that we're together in one house is already precious to me.
One time, we were all in the family car. DGob noticed kumpleto kami and exclaimed: "Yehey! Punta na tayo sa beach!"
Sana ganoong kadali. Pero promise, pag nakaluwag sa gastos at nakalibre sa trabaho (and school), magbi-beach tayo.

September 11 - Mimay is Cured
Mimay #2 was finally discharged from the hospital. (sigh) Salamat na rin sa herbal knowledge ni Mimay #1 at sa mga shared information from old folks in the same ward. Some things to consider, if in case a loved one gets dengue:
1. Tawatawa helps. But according to my research, di pa siya approved ng DOH as a medicine for dengue. Actually ang ginagawa n'ya, it strengthens the membranes of the blood vessels para di mag-internal bleeding.
2. Itlog ng pugo and sabaw ng talbos ng kamote help increase the number of platelets (although I haven't done any research on this)
3. Common sense: since there really is no medicine for any virus, the best way is to strengthen yourself with vitamins, especially ascorbic acid

September 10 - Ref Clean-up
Naguguluhan ako sa ref namin. May a little bit of this and a little bit of that. The maid naman never really bothers to take out what needs to be taken out.
So today, I did what Suzie Entrata keeps on saying in her NIDO commercials -- I checked the label. Ang unang batayan sa pagtapon: expiration date. Pangalawang batayan: may amag ba? Pangatlong batayan: ganyan ba talaga amoy n'yan?
I ended up throwing a grocery bag load of food. I didn't think naman that they'd expire so soon.

September 9 - Doctor Knows Best
Just when we thought makakalabas na ang mimay #2 sa hospital, bumaba uli ang kanyang platelet count -- from 80 to 46.
Meanwhile the hospital bill just keeps adding up... ka-ching... ka-ching... ka-ching...
Ganun?!
I remember having a yaya na nagmamarunong, like mimay#1. Her name was Fe. Maliit pa noon si Andy at nasa hospital because of amoebiasis. Without telling anyone, aba may I adjust n'ya ang speed! Josmeh! Buti na lang napansin ni Ate Lora. Joskoday-- nakakaloka!
In fairness to mimay#1, may alam din naman siyang ang couple of things tungkol sa herbal medicine. Pero pag nasa ospital ka, leave it to the doctors, okay?

September 8 - Happy Birthday, Mama Mary
Just when we're celebrating the birthday of Mama Mary, heto ako, abala sa pagiging ina.
After the trip to the hospital, naglunch kami ni Andy at sinundo ko si Gobgob sa school.
At sa paglipas ng araw na ito, I pray: Mama Mary, help me be a good mother. Amen.

September 7 - Lost
Now that the mimays are away, I find myself lost in my own house.
Saan nakatago ang walis tingting? Paano kung tumulo yung tangke? Paano ba paandarin itong washing machine? Alin ba dito yung plantsang matino? Saan na ang school shoes ni Gobgob? Haynaku... mimays. Can't live with 'em. Can't live without 'em.

September 6 - Oh my Mimay!
It's confeeeeermed. Mimay #2 has the dengue virus. When we had her checked, 35 na lang platelet count n'ya. 150 ang minimum sa normal. Grabeh! Nakakaloka.
The moment I heard that she needs to be confined, kung anu-ano nang thoughts ang pumunta sa utak ko. At ang nakakaguilty nito, mas nauna ang "Magkano?" kesa sa "Will she live?"
So, magkano nga ba? Nung pinasok namin siya sa ER, cost of CBC and urinalysis was around P430+. Down payment for the confinement was P3,000. Room charge per day is P600 (ward siya, 4 patients to a room na may aircon naman at banyo). Kung kakailanganin ng blood transfusion, since walang blood bank ang hospital, cost of each bag would be around P1,000. Betchabygollywow!
Andy should also be tested kasi nagka-fever din siya today. Pero I guess he was too tired to go to the hospital pa.
Joskopoh! There goes my pambayad sa credit cards...

August 21 - Arimunding-munding
It's DGob's first school program. And she danced the "Arimunding-munding" like an angel. But DGob thinks otherwise. She said, "Mama, ang sexy ko o." Ngeh.
Anyway, after the program, may potluck snacks. The parents were supposed to bring native food and delicacies,it being Buwan ng Wika. Syempre, may mga pasaway. May nagdala ng carbonara, barbecue, donuts, siomai, hotdog with marshmallows... Ako, semi-pasaway lang. I brought Goldilocks mamon. Pinoy ba ang mamon? I don't know. Pinoy ba si Goldilocks? Hmmm... well, she's blonde. So, there you go.
Para sulit yung biniling kimona costume at bakya, DGob wore them the whole day.

From the story to the script to the acting... joskoday! Even the special effects and the action sequence choreography sucked. Wala yata siyang redeeming factor.
And to think super star-studded siya: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke... may cameo role pa si Gobernador Arnold Schwarzenneger!
What a waste of money! Pwede bang refund?
August 19 - Palabra de Honor
May mga kumpanyang wala nito.
We have a client who committed x amount of billings for a given period in exchange for lower agency rates.

Madalas either Tapa King lang or Binalot.
Lately though, with my aging officemates getting more health-conscious, we've been ordering from Kenny Rogers Roasters. A favorite is the Hi-Fiber meal, which includes 1/4 roast chicken, corn on the cob, fruit and veggie salad and Lite iced tea.
First time we ordered it -- ang sarap n'ya (two thumbs up!) Second time we ordered it -- ba't ang liit ng manok? (what they gave us pala was deboned na). Third time we ordered it -- okay, lumaki na uli yung manok, pero ang tabang! (kasi isa siyang malaking petso.)
Note to self: next time we order, we should specify which part we want and if we prefer the chicken deboned or not... and... don't forget the muffins!

July 8 - The Suite Life
Our client decided to check in sa Oakwood for his brand's planning session. He got a two-bedroom suite for the planning session proper and two single bedroom suites for the participants. Besides, I LOVE hotel breakfast buffets.
Have you been to the Oakwood in Ortigas? The rooms are fabulous! Ours has a kitchen na may oven, a nice countertop stove, a microwave oven, coffeemaker, dishwasher... Pagbukas mo nung isang cabinet, may washing machine pa!
There's a I-don't-know-how-many-inches-but-it's-really-big wallmounted plasma TV plus DVD player. In our room there's also a TV that's slightly smaller than the big one sa living room. Meron din sa bathroom, which you can use while relaxing sa bathtub... oooohhh!
Aside from the bathtub, the bathroom has something like a mini-spa/sauna. Their soap is glicerine -- yung amber ang color, mukhang Neutrogena. Smells like Lush though. Sosyal!
Definitely, I've got my two thumbs up for Oakwood.

July 6 - Rich Lola
Yesterday I went brisk walking at the Legazpi Active Park and encountered Rich Lola again. This is the lola with a white Ford van (Explorer ba yun? Everest? Basta malaki) WPY 138 and an entourage of 10. Hula ko, nanay siya ng isang politiko. Kasi dati, may escort pa siyang police.
After ilang ikot sa park on her wheelchair, one of the nurses wiped her face and applied blush on her cheeks! Ayos.

July 5 - Phil-Am Friendship Day
Actually, Phiil-American Friendship Day falls on July 4. Yup, that's what we used to call the American Independence Day. At dati, holiday siya. Walang pasok.
Siguro dahil Phil-American Friendship Day, they started the show Umagang Kay Ganda with this singer doing his rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner". Sa background may Philippine and American flags and a couple of people with their kanang kamay sa dibdib.
Hmm... parang may mali doon.

July 4 - Back to Baking
I want to renew my ties with the oven. Bought baking ingredients when I went to market today and made some chocolate chip cookies from scratch. If only I had time, would've baked fudge brownies too.
I also want to do some serious bread-making. Used to make really good ensaymadas, donuts and burli bread (yung may braiding involved). I even formulated my very own recipe for pan de sal! Maaalala ko pa kaya ang techniques? It's been a long time.

July 3 - Starting with a Prayer
Today is Andy's first day to attend ROTC. His class is from 7 AM to 12 noon. (May pasok siya ng Sunday?!) Yes, may pasok siya ng Sunday.
But since UST is a Catholic university, the class starts with Sunday mass. Short lang daw ang sermon. Doon na lang kaya kami magsimba?

July 2 - Killing Time
Today is a day of killing time. While waiting for DGob, I finished reading Now That We're Six -- a Winnie-the-Pooh book by A.A. Milne. It's really a book of poetry. Not exactly my type. Read it only because I like Winnie-the-Pooh.
Back at home, since our Globe Broadband internet isn't working, I just spent the whole time playing "Plants vs. Zombies". Was able to reach 17 flags sa Endless ng Survival. Not bad for starters.
Would like to bake cookies sana pero kulang sa ingredients. Ho-hum... what a lazy day.

July 1 - Knee Support
Went to Toby's at Shangri-La Plaza to buy knee support for Andy. Never thought there would be so many choices. May elastic, may parang foamy material, may parang foamy pero breathable material; may butas, may wala; merong may wire support, may diretso lang... Grabe -- ang dami talaga!
Syempre in the end, ang binili ko ay yung mura (50% off, less than P200 lang siya). In fairness, okay naman daw ang fit. And made in USA naman (yata).

June 30 - Doctor, Doctor, Andy's Sick
Dr. Carnero is abroad pala and will be out of the country until October. Ganun?! Syempre they didn't tell us when we went to Medical City Marikina last Saturday. Pinabalik pa si Andy ng Monday, just to tell him to come back and see this other doctor today. Labo.
So while PNoy was taking his oath, nandoon kami sa clinic consulting Dr. Miranda. As expected, pina-xray yung knee and better kung mapa-MRI din. (MRI betchabygollywow ang mahal)
Negative naman for fracture. Malamang nabugbog lang yung ligaments, like before. Pero sobrang swollen. That's why the doctor decided to aspirate. Aspirate is like getting an injection, pero pabaligtad. Extracted from Andy's knee was 72cc of blood! Datsalottablood!
My understanding is -- may nasugatan sa loob and since walang sugat sa labas, na stuck siya inside. Right after the aspiration, the swelling was practically gone.
At magkano naman ang ginastos? P3,000 for the aspiration plus consultation, P11 for the syringe ek, P1,800+ for the antibiotics/anti-maga drugs. Isama mo na dyan yung P700+ for the x-ray and P600 for the crutches. Next Wednesday, check-up uli ni Andy.
There goes the money I was saving for my Citibank utang.

June 29 - Magarbo
Rode the MRT today from Mantrade to the Shang. I passed through this mall connected to the MRT station and discovered this little shop with some interesting pieces.
Lahat ng blouses na type ko P350 lang. I don't know if all their items are the same price (parang P99 Store). I also don't know if they have sizes.
I have a hunch ukay siya combined with stuff sourced from biyaheras. Hunch lang naman. Anyway, ukay or not, pag makaluwag sa mga bayarin, expect me to go on a shopping spree. Yesss! (kelan kaya yun?)

June 28 - Here Comes the Rain Again
Almost every afternoon, umuulan na. Today it rained extra hard. That's why sa kalsada, it was extra traffic too.
I hitched with Arleen and went down at Riverside. Rode the bus because I heard flooded ang Brookside.
But then traffic was sooooo slooowww...so slow, nag-subside na ang baha by the time we passed. Hindi ko alam kung matutuwa ako.

June 27 - Toy Story 3
Ganito ang eksena: Woody and the other toys were about to escape from Sunny Day Daycare. Gabi na and they were sneaking through the playground. Suddenly, it turns its head a full 180 degrees!
"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
That was this little boy seated sa row behind us. Joskoday, OA ang sigaw ha. Nakakatawa.

June 26 - PWD
Person With Disability. Like Andy, whose knee injury strikes again. This time, I think it's worse kasi hirap talaga siyang maglakad, I had to buy him crutches.
Eh today we watched the Last Full Show of Toy Story 3. After the movie, syempre di na umaandar ang escalator. Thanks to Andy, pinagamit sa amin ng considerate guards of SM Taytay yung freight elevator. For the first time in the many years na nanonood ako ng LFS sa SM, di ako naglakad sa escalator (Eh I hate walking through the escalator!)
May bright side din pala ang pagiging pilay, 'no? One of these days, makapark nga sa handicapped parking lot.

June 25 - Inggit kay Bob Ong
Bob Ong is a Pinoy writer who writes in colloquial Tagalog. And his books are short enough to read in one sitting, while waiting for DGob's 11:30 dismissal time.
Abnkkbsa N Pla Ako is about the writer's childhood. The story takes you through his preschool, elementary, high school and college years... hanggang nagtrabaho na siya as a teacher. Kind of reminds me of Roald Dahl's Boy. But in the latter, the writer becomes a pilot.
Alamat ng Gubat naman is about this crab named Tong who was sent on a mission by his father the King Crab. Tong has to bring home the puso ng saging kasi yun daw yung cure para sa kanyang ailing father. Along the way he meets several animal characters na nagrerepresent ng iba't ibang members ng ating society. Uma-Animal Farm siya, actually. But very entertaining, I must say!
And what makes me super green with envy -- required reading na sa school yung Alamat ng Gubat!
Congrats, Bob Ong! You're my idol.

June 24 - CAPananginamo!
Sa kasamaang palad, bumili kami ng CAP way back in the 90s. We got it from my sister-in-law who migrated to Canada.
In 2006, noong nagkakagulo na sa CAP, the hubby and I decided to terminate our plans. Ang makukuha namin for the termination: P20,000 per plan. Fine.
We were told to follow up in 3 months. More than 3 months pa nga when I did follow up. An irritated clerk told me to just check the website.
Every now and then, I would check their website -- www.cap.com.ph. Syempre never umappear yung notification that our checks are ready.
Today, I decided to visit the head office. Again, I was told to check the website. Pero sabi ng ale, the check should be ready in 3 to 5 months. Ganun?!
I also checked on the status of my sister-in-law's remaining plan, which was also for termination. Ang weird kasi according to their records, hindi daw siya for termination. For availment daw siya. (Whatever!) Follow up daw in 3 to 6 months.
I asked the other poor folks who also terminated their plans and were waiting for their checks. Pare-pareho ang kwento -- one million years in the making ang mga lintek na tseke!
And worse, 2 GIVES pa magbayad ang CAPananginamo! Anuveh!

June 23 - C5 Parking Lot
I rode the FX on my way home. Wala pang Makati Ave., tulog na ako. I woke up somewhere after the Bagong Ilog flyover along C5. All the vehicles were at a standstill... siguro mga 30 minutes din yun. Basta ang tagal.
Then, they decided to move. At first slowly. Tapos later on, towards Ortigas Ext. na, mas nag gain ng speed. Surprisingly nga, ni walang traffic sa Rosario.
Ano yun?

June 22 - FX tip
I overheard from my seatmate sa FX na pauwi mas maraming Valley Golf FX sa Valero vs. sa Standard Chartered na sakayan. Masubukan nga.
June 21 - Father's Day Gifts
I gave my Dad cake... because he loves sweets.
What did I give the dad of my kids? I wrapped his songbooks in plastic, cleaned his work area and found his lost keys. O di ba matipid?

June 20 - Last Two Minutes
Almost closing time na when we had our dinner at Tokyo Tokyo, SM City Taytay. Sobrang limited na lang ang offering nila, as in, almost everything was "not available".
Anyway, there was enough food for the five of us. Great! Pero yung iced tea nila, walang ice. Ganun?! Parang tapsilog without egg. O kaya cafe latte na black. Ngak!

June 19 - Taekwondo or Ballet
I attended the orientation in DGob's preschool and I found out that they're offering taekwondo and ballet as extracurricular activities for the kids.
Imagine DGob wearing a white taekwondo outfit and doing a flying kick -- "Hyaaaah!"
Or DGob wearing a white tutu dancing to the tune of "Swan Lake".
Hmmm...
Huwag na lang.

June 11 - UltraLipo
I'm so lucky. My life is full of unique experiences that make it oh so colorful. Colorful enough to write in a blog.
Today, I will write about Ultrasonic Liposuction. You see, we have this slimming/derma clinic client, Face & Figure Center, na hindi ko naman talaga account. The bosses decided that the team should try some of their services to get to know their products better. I just happened to be there so napasama ako sa mga nag "try".
When I asked the receptionist/attendant what service I should try, immediately she replied -- "UltraLipo!" Aba-- ganun na ba akong kataba?
Anyway, libre siya. Kahit insultuhin n'ya pa ako, deadma.
I was led to this little room and made to wear this velcroed tapis and slippers. Dapat no metals on your body. So all jewelries you have to put in this jewel box sa tabi. The attendant measured my upper, middle and lower bilbil.
The entire procedure took around an hour. A liquid was applied on my tummy. Then, this plantsa-like apparatus was used to massage my flabby belly. This is supposed to "crack" the fat cells. At first wala lang. Then, may heat na involved. Then, my something na kinabit sa kabilbilan na pumipitik-pitik. This is supposed to "dissolve" the fat.
After the procedure, the attendant measured me again. Tadah -- lost 1 inch sa upper, another inch sa middle and half inch sa lower bilbil. Really?!
Ilang sessions naman ang kailangan para ako maging ganap na sexy mujer with an hour-glass figure? Ten sessions. Sa halagang... P45,000!!! Not bad, kung tutuusin. Pero wala lang talaga akong pera. Ngak.
Face & Figure Center is located at Unit 1509 Medical Plaza Ortigas Bldg., San Miguel Ave., Ortigas Center. If you're going there, must-try yung massage chair nila sa reception area. Sobrang winner!

June 8 - Packo's Grille
Normally, after we service this client in Caloocan, at pag kasama sa meeting sina Arleen, Kakat, Bobby and Iten at ako, we usually eat lunch at Bagoong Club. Bagoong Club is in the Scout area (I forget which street). Super sarap ng Bagoong Crispy Pata and Gambas nila. I also like their desserts.
Today, Bobby and Iten decided to treat us somewhere else (yes, it's always their treat). Packo's Grille is near ABS-CBN. No, we didn't see any celebs having a late lunch. I particularly liked their Binagoongan (bagoong na naman?) Just the right blend of salty-sweetness-linamnam. Yummy!

June 7 - Bus Sign
Seen on a bus: "Bawal magbenta ng itlog, mani at mais dito." But I guess puwede ang candy, casoy and even yung nira-raket ng iba na Zesto. Weird.
June 6 - Sunday Dinner with Zombies
Toka ko ngayon ang dinner. Dapat madali lang lutuin o kaya yung pwedeng ihabilin na lang sa mimay para may time for "Plants vs Zombies".
On the menu: Grilled Oriental Chicken (care of the Julius Maggi Kitchen), barbecue and linasing na hipon (recipes from In Good Taste magazine). Madali lang siya, promise.

After our little get-together, naglaro uli ako. Natapos ko the whole adventure in 3 days!
Wow.

June 5 - Katakawan
Yesterday, we went back-to-school shopping at SM Marikina. We started in the afternoon and by the time we were paying at the cashier, it was already 8:30 PM! No wonder D Gob was complaining that her tummy was aching.
Andy and Koko still had to check out something in one of the boutiques. So D Gob and I went ahead to the Food Court to grab something to eat. Tamad na akong mag-isip. So I just ordered one whole lechon manok and four cups of Java rice. Iniisip ko -- anyway I can always bring home the leftovers.
Walang natira.

June 4 - Caught Swerving
Yun ang sabi ng pulis.
I was in Cubao area, somewhere along Aurora Blvd. when it happened. At first nasa left lane ako. When I saw there was an intersection with traffic light ahead, nagsignal ako and moved to the middle lane. Malayo pa naman ako, mga four cars away from the intersection when I changed lane. Swerving daw. Ganun?!
I thought my charm would work. It usually does. But I have a pimple right between my eyes. Akala ko tinubuan ako ng third eye. Pero hindi, pimple lang pala. Maybe that's why charm didn't work.
ME: Sige na...
Pang merienda ba? Hetong sa 'yo! Hmph!
Anyway, I still think that wasn't swerving. Kasi from what I know, dalawang lanes ang tatawirin mo to be considered swerving. That, Virginia, is called changing lanes.

June 3 - The Zombies
Today I was introduced to the exciting world of "Plants vs Zombies". At first I thought it was a ho-hum game.
But it turns out, game of strategy pala siya. Which weapons will work best for you? Where should you place them para mas madali mong ma-defeat ang zombies?
I played until I was teary-eyed. Tears of joy?! Naman! Eye strain lang po. Ahihihi!

June 2 - Signs
Maagang umuwi mga boss. Is this a sign that I should go home early?
Maybe it's a sign that I should leave early and go to the Sun office in Galleria for my replacement SIM.
Tapos, when I looked at the Valley Golf FX, my favorite seat - front, window side - was vacant! Bongga!
It's a sign! Makauwi na nga.

June 1 - This is my Blood
A positive. Rare, precious A positive. And they rejected it.
I was supposed to donate blood for someone's transfusion. Sa Makati Med siya and the Blood Bank is in the new wing, kaya medyo excited ako. (Ako lang yata ang nae-excite sa bloodletting)
But I didn't pass the screening. Kaunti raw ang white blood cells ko. The reason: puyat or possible exposure to some virus. Ganun?!

May 31 - Death and Mystery
Last Saturday, an office mate's hubby suffered a heart attack. Today, I just found out that he didn't survive it.
Grabe, shocking. Never really met the guy. Pero the thought na any time, your significant other could die... without warning... parang thought-provoking, 'no?
Anyway, the morning was spent talking about Ariel's death. In life, he never joined any of our office get-togethers. Sobrang anti-social, you'd think he was a figment of the imagination. Ngayon, he was cremated soon after death and our friend requested na huwag na raw kaming bumisita.
Tinooneenooneenooneenooooo... (that's supposed to sound like "The Twilight Zone, okay?")

May 24 - Baguio on a Budget
Sabi ko na nga ba, even if you want to, ang hirap talaga to keep a budget when you're out of town. Baguio pa.
According to Iten, our boss and promotor sa pagpunta sa Baguio, total expense was around P9,000. Sagot na raw nila half. Divided among ourselves (including the kids) our gastos amounted to P400 per person (not counting D Gob)... plus share ko sa gas ni Nyora -- P1,000... Plus pasalubong...
* 2 kilos strawberries at P150 each - p300
* 2 walis - P140
*10 packs kulangot at 3 for P100 (bonus 1 pack) - P300
* 2 kilos broccoli at P25/kilo - P50
- 1 jar strawberry jam - P80
- 1 bottle Romana's peanuts - P120
- 3 sets woven placemats at P180/set - P540
- 1 kilo longganisa
Plus some other stuff I bought:
* Oca's shirt - P350
* Koko's bonnet - P100
* Andy and Koko's slippers at PP50 each - P100
* Gob's Dora crocs - P100
* Gob's socks at 3 for P100 - P100
Naykupu! Ayoko nang kwentahin. May lunch pa sa Chow King before going home. Pero no regrets. We all had so much fun. :)

May 23 - Marloboro Country
While in Baguio, we stayed at Tito Bob's house. Not my tito. Bobby's tito. Tito Bob is a super-rich guy who owns #1 Marlboro Country -- this huge estate with its own gym na parang clubhouse. Marlboro Country is also home to hundreds of manok na pansabong, a very beautiful Siberian husky and a shih-tzu pretending to be a guard dog.
The house has five rooms, all fully-furnished, may somekinda spa pa for each banyo. Yung kitchen kumpleto rin sa gamit. Mas kumpleto pa yata sa sarili kong kusina (to think it's only a vacation house).
The gym has a badminton court, a billiard table, pingpong table, fussball... Sa labas may nice gazebo and an area where you can have a bonfire.
How does anyone get this rich? Tito Bobby's main business is fish hauling. And since money begets money, yumaman siya nang yumaman and continues to get rich with every business venture he gets into.
Trivia: Willie Revillame bought his yacht from Tito Bobby. It's bigger and more luxurious than the presidential yacht. What a bonggang bonggang bangka!

May 22 - Against All Odds

Parang ayaw kaming papuntahin ng Baguio. We left Makati around 9:00 PM. Me and the kids just hitched with the Nyora. By around midnight, we reached Hacienda Luisita. When suddenly-- pffft... Flat tire?!! A cutter blade did it and since nag running flat na siya, sira na siya forever. Irreparable.
Tama ba 'yun? But what can we do? Delikado magtravel ng long distance without a spare tire.
So off we went. Tulog ako most of the time until I heard the Nyora scream.
Nabangga kami. Anuveh!? It was around 4 AM and we were along the zigzag road, a few meters before the Lion. Super light bump lang naman. Didn't even hear the impact. (But then who could hear the sound of impact with the Nyora's scream?) At first, sabi ng nabangga namin P300 daw yung pagawa. Then just when I was about to give him the P300, biglang labor pa lang daw yun and the cost suddenly went up to P500. Ganun?!
Buti na lang, the Nyora's driver Remi haggled and got the price down to P400. Fine!
We reached Baguio around 5:30 AM. Muntik na kaming mabangga uli pero buti na lang the other vehicle missed us (sigh).
Boy -- this is gonna be some weekend!
May 12 - Carlo Lorenzo
Today is the birthday of my younger brother Carlo who had Down's Syndrome. He was in and out of the hospital since the day he was born. The last straw was broncho-pneumonia. He was almost 3 years old when he joined our Creator. If he had lived, he would be 38 years old.
Today is also the birthday of my dear friend and officemate Madz. Si Madz ay buhay na buhay pa and she's 30 years old. Wala lang.

May 11 - Disappointments
First of all, it's disappointing that despite the many information campaigns, ang dami pa ring not following directions. Like, nagkaslight delay sa PCos si hubby because this person who voted for two presidents nagngangawngaw kasi ayaw siyang bigyan ng replacement ballot. Like, anuveh?
Ngayon naman, ang major disappointment ko are the results of the election. Maiintindihan ko if Noynoy won. Medyo na-surprise ako with Binay leading (but hey, I must admit I kinda like his jingle), pero yung line-up of senators?! Joskoday!!!
Same old, same old. Is this really Election 2010?

May 10 - Count Me In
The hubby and I decided to go to the polling precinct in the morning. Just in case magulo, at least, we're ahead and most probably makakaboto kahit papaano.
We got there around 9 AM. Asked around for the procedure. Pumila lang kami kay Des (yung super active Lady of the Altar), she gave us a number. Tapos pumila kami uli sa katabi n'ya to get another number. One-person long lang naman ang lines, so no problem.
Then we looked for precinct 139. Unlike the others, this one didn't have much of a line. Again, one-person long lang siya. We got our ballots, filled them out, fed them to the PCos machine, put indelible ink on our finger and our thumbmark sa record. And that's it! Took us only around 15 minutes.
Tinanong ko one of those in charge of precinct 139 bakit walang pila sa amin? Sabi n'ya, kasi nag-coordinate nang mabuti yung Comelec and PPCRV namin. Actually, well-organized talaga sila kasi around 2 weeks before election, nagdoor to door pa sila to distribute sample ballots with a note kung anong precinct number mo.
Posible naman pala e. Sana yung people behind precinct 139 ang maging Comelec commissioners next election.
May 9 - Celebrating Mother's Day
What did you get for Mother's Day?
Nakapagpamalengke ako with the hubby and kids, even if I know they don't like going to the palengke.
I was able to have 7 pairs of shoes repaired, hubby's treat.
For lunch, my choice of restaurant. (We went to Pizza Hut.) And, the hubby and kids took care of feeding D Gob. (sigh)
Sana every day is Mother's Day.

May 7 - Nanny, Let's Speak English

What's with our generation? Parang obsessed pag-Ingglisin lahat ng bata. Although mastery of the English language is fine, sana huwag naman nating kalimutan ang sariling atin.
Minsan nga, nakakatawang tingnan ang ibang English-shpokening kids. Walang audio-video lock. Parang yung half-brother ni Juday sa "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo". And yung kids ni Eugene Domingo sa "Working Girls". Not that bawal mag-Ingglis ang pangit. Wala lang, they look funny.
May 6 - Tooth and Nails

Half day ako today because of a dental appointment. Today's the schedule of my tooth extraction. This is the tooth that has been bothering me for more than a month now. What a relief. Pero like any tooth extraction, what a scare. Good thing my dentist is good. And, covered siya ng ValueCare. (sigh)
Since naka-save ako doon (at ang init pa sa labas), I decided to splurge on my nails before going home. There's a new Posh Nails salon next to the dental clinic that offers "nail whitening". Hmmm -- tamang-tama.
Posh Nails has gurly-gurly interiors -- pink and purple seats, crystal chandelier, lots of comfy pillows. Their manicurists wear fuschia pink aprons. Cute.
Right now I think they're having trouble with their aircon. Pero okay lang. They try to compensate by providing each customer with an electric fan.
Accommodating naman ang staff. Pag-upo mo, they will offer you coffee or iced tea and magazines galore. I got the Nail Spoiling treatment with nail whitening -- in other words, foot spa with pedicure. My opinion -- kulang sa masahe at lotion yung service. Even if the whole spoiling thing took 1 1/2 hours, parang bitin. As for the nail whitening -- well, so-so. It worked for my small toe nails. But not for the big toe nails.
So, will I go back to Posh Nails? Foot spa with pedicure is P400+. Nail whitening is P100. Maybe for the nail whitening, as needed. But otherwise -- no.
May 5 - How Do You Solve a Problem Like Badong
Badong is the hubby of Celia, our househelp. He's the typical good-for-nothing feeling macho kinda Badong. Used to work for my husband as a construction worker until we found out na sumasideline siya sa kliyente ni Oca. And, that he sold one of Oca's equipment sa junkshop. Walang hiya talaga! That's why he got booted out and was forced to go back to Bicol.
While in Bicol, Badong never really bothered to earn a living.
Anyway, this Badong suffered a stroke. Ngeh!
Now, poor Celia has to raise the money pambayad sa ospital. I don't want to ask how much yung total (baka mautangan uli ako). But I know malaki-laki na rin ang bill. At pataas siya nang pataas every day of his continued confinement.
Celia has Philhealth naman. Pero because of miscommunication, hindi niya nasubmit lahat ng requirements agad-agad. And even if naayos agad ang papeles n'ya, Philhealth won't foot naman the entire bill. Problema pa rin.
I checked the Hospital Detention Bill of Senator Pia Cayetano. Pwede namang ilabas ang pasyente sa hospital as long as you submit a promissory note signed by a guarantor or backed by a mortgage.
How sad. But the way things are going, sana nga.

May 4 - Bus Rider

As a commuter, the bus is my choice mode of transportation. Unlike the jeep, it has aircon. Unlike the FX, it's generally more comfortable. But of course the bus isn't perfect. For one thing, the trip usually takes longer - either long way siya or ma-traffic ang kanyang ruta. There are also buses na pangjunk shop na. Some things na talagang nakakairita:
1. Two-seaters pretending to be three-seaters
2. Torn seat covers exposing the worn out Uratex foam underneath
3. Aircon that cool only the sitted people, but not the people on the aisle
4. Filthy window ledges - minsan may small ipis pa
5. Bad TV reception
Today, I add one more to my list. Rode the bus this morning with "Video on Board." Naka maximum volume ang audio - KALOKA! I asked the conductor to turn it down. I think he did naman. Pero ang lakas pa rin! Even with my headphones, si FPJ at Anjanette Abayari pa rin ang naririnig ko.
Tiis... tiis na lang... all the way to Ayala.

May 3 - Labor Day
Thank God may trabaho ako!
I didn't have money?
Joskoday! With all that, plus the bills, wala nang natira sa sinuweldo ko.

May 2 - Our Family Farmville

My maternal side of the family used to grow black pepper, madre de cacao and anthuriums in Lipa. But giving in to the demand for real estate, the land is now a subdivision.
But a big chunk is still the family's ownership. We still have the pool and the cottage next to it. There are a couple of mango trees out front which is being cared for by a couple of farmers. Mommy says we get 40% of the yield. (Really?) But I guess marami yatang umi-intercept. Nothing much is left in the end.
Mommy also owns a small piece of land a few meters away from the pool. It has a little house and some fruit-bearing trees. A tenant (who hasn't been paying the rent) is tending the place.
MOMMY: Okay lang yun. At least, nabawasan na ang nakawan. Nung walang nakatira doon, pati yung gripo sa labas ninanakaw.
I guess running a business that doubles as a charitable institution runs in the family. Like our salon, this Farmville doesn't score high in terms of profit. Pero deadma. Basta masarap balik-balikan, pwede na rin!
May 1 - Lipa Cathedral

A break from our yearly tradition, the hubby and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary with the family. We were supposed to hear the anticipated mass at Lipa Cathedral, but we were too late for the last mass. So, we just had a sumptuous dinner at Savory Restaurant. But before that, picture-taking muna sa facade ng Cathedral.
BRO-IN-LAW: (to nephew) Picturan mo yang simbahan. Historical yan. Di ba d'yan yung may miraculous Virgin ba yun? Yung may petals na nahuhulog.
ME: Hindi. Ibang simbahan yata yun. Pero historical pa rin yan. Dyan kinasal si Ate Vi.
(nephew's thought balloon: Sino yun?)
Medyo unromantic yung aming celebration. But I guess we can always save the romance for another day. Happy Anniversary, Pops!
Note: Cathedral Mass Schedule - Saturday 5 PM * Sunday 5 AM, 6 AM, 7 AM, 8:15 AM, 9:30 AM, 3:00 PM, 5 PM, 6 PM, 7 PM
April 30 - Dead Frogs

On our way to and from D Gob's school, we encountered quite a number of dead frogs. Mga nagulungan ng sasakyan sa kalsada. At first, D Gob's reaction was -- Ewww! But then I had this wonderful idea of counting the dead frogs. So now, every time we see one, D Gob would get excited.
ME: O -- how many dead frogs have we seen?
D GOB: Seven!
Hey, did you know that they sell frogs for dissection in UP? According to my sister, the going rate is P50 per frog. Hmmm....
April 29 - Nice Day
Presentation in the morning -- approved!
Lechon manok, chop suey and lumpia for lunch -- sarap!
Rhum butter cake and chocolate cake for dessert -- yummy!
Yellow Cab pizza for merienda -- nomnom!
Grabe! Ang saya ng buhay! What more can I ask for?

April 23 - Movie Date with D Gob

After D Gob's summer class, we went to Robinsons Galleria to see the family dentist. Well, she wasn't there. So being a very hot day, D Gob and I decided to hang out at the mall and watch a movie instead. Not very many nice movies for kids today. Anyway, I just picked "Working Girls" (even if I knew there would be some bastos kind of humor there somewhere).
Some surprising lines I heard, straight from mouth of my baby:
(Upon seeing Ruffa Gutierrez wearing a lacy gown with skin tone lining)
D GOB: Kita suso n'ya,
(Upon seeing Raphael Rosell and Cristine Reyes kissing)
D GOB: Friends sila?
(And the kicker -- upon seeing Raphael Rosell take off his shirt)
D GOB: Ang gwapo!!!

April 18 - Flowers: The Good and the Bad

I like flowers. In fact, there was a time when flowers were part of my weekly budget. Pag may occasion, lalo na. Pero yung inexpensive blooms lang, like mums, gladiola at saka-- anong tawag dun?-- yung purple or white or yellow na magandang gamitin for dried flower arrangements.
Anyway, my rich sister just hosted a big party at her house and opted to have flower arrangements galore as decor. When I say "galore", as in, joskoh! Ang daming bulaklak!
Now while we were just sitting there, amidst all the colorful flowers, someone said: "Amoy funeraria, 'no?" Ngak! (sniff-sniff) Oo nga.
So heto: will someone take note of this please pag mamatay na ako -- AYOKO NG SUPER DAMING FLOWERS SA AKING WAKE HA? Patay na nga, amoy patay pa. Just one on each side of my coffin, one on top and a couple of smaller arrangements sa ilalim will do. And then paki inform na lang the others na in lieu of flowers, please send donations na lang to our parish church. Okay?
Yun lang. And, ayoko rin ng Zesto ha? So funeraric.
April 17 - Ukay-ukay
After the outing and lunch at Kanin Club, we went to Oca's construction site in Sta. Rosa so he could have some work done. Sa second floor ng clinic that he's doing is an ukay-ukay store.
My finds for this trip:
1. Books galore -- three storybooks for Gobgob, one sci-fi book for Koko and two Winnie-the-Pooh books for myself (P35-P40 each)
2. Socks -- no, they're not used (P10 each)
Ang daming magandang sweaters. But why buy a sweater in this sizzling hot weather?

April 16 - Kulay Away

The company was divided into four teams and everyone competed in the different challenges set every week. May bowling, videoke, badminton and all sorts of parlor games during the outing.
May sobrang competitive -- "It's all about winning!" May gusto lang mag-enjoy -- "It's just a game." At merong competitive, pero in a nice way -- "It's all about teamwork."
So, sinong nagwagi? Who cares? We all had a great time. We all won big bucks (even the losers did!) And we all got drunk.
April 15 - Selective Punctuality
Many times I go to the office, turn on my computer and FB while waiting for the people to come. Before I know it, 10 AM na.
Anyway, today is different. At a little past 7:00 AM, I was one of the last to arrive. Kasi company outing. Ganun?!

April 14 - American Junk, Pinoy style

Some people can't do without Doritos or Lays. Joskoday-- around P100 isang supot!
Or Jack n Jill. Ang daming pagpipilian at a fraction of the cost!
Nandyan ang all-time favorites, walang kakupas-kupas na Chippy, Chiz Curls and Clover Chips. Basta yung mga original flavors nila. For Chippy, dapat yung pula. For Clover, dapat yung blue.
Kung gusto mo ng maanghang, may V-Cut. O kaya yung hot na Grower's peanuts (great with Coke lite!)
Need something for your sweet cravings? I love Oishi's Sponge Crunch and Choco Plunge! As in, yummy!
Other chicherya that I like: Piattos (cheese and pizza flavor, in particular), Nova (healthy pa, ek), Marty's (blue), Beer Match Salt and Vinegar, Nagaraya (yellow), Boy Bawang (chili cheese).
Now if you really like Lays and Doritos but don't have the budget for it, try any of Oishi's potato chips. They have a dozen flavors. May gourmet chips pa sila na around P40 lang. I think the closest thing to Doritos would be-- yung yellow orange ang packaging, starting with the letter T. Darn I forget the name.
O iyan ha -- Chicherya 101 in time for the summer outings!
April 13 - Brazilian Ka Dyan!
Sino bang nagpauso na maging hairless ang mga babae in certain parts of the body?
Pero heto ako -- giving in to the dictates of society. So in time for the company outing on Thursday, siyempre I waxed myself clean.
Kaartehan ko, I do my waxing three ways. For the kilikili I use Epilin warm wax, kasi nothing else would do (except siyempre ang matalas na razor blade). For the legs, I use the No Hair Wax Kit -- this cold wax I won via a ruleta game sa Sta. Lucia (ang jologs!). For the bikini area (as if I wear a bikini) I use cream. Last year I used Body Natur, which was okay with me. But since it's no longer available in Watsons, I tried Veet. I think Veet is better.
So, will I ever go Brazilian? Ngak n'yo!

April 12 - One Oasis

Overheard conversation between two men in the bus, both looking in awe at One Oasis:
MAN1: Wow, ang ganda. Siguro ang ganda rin ng presyo. Pangmayaman.
April 11 - Pork Sisid

Money or no money, I've decided to buy new snorkeling gear in time for the office outing.
Some things I learned from the saleslady:
1. Mares is a brand known for snorkeling gear. Other less expensive brands may not be as reliable in terms of quality
2. Look for gear that has no phthalates -- something manufacturers use to make plastic look like real silicon
3. Phthalates can cause skin allergies
I did some research and found out that phthalates have been found to have bad effects on our endocrine and reproductive systems. It also has some links to obesity. Ganun?!
Mas compelling reason yata yun kesa skin allergies. Anyway, my new gear doesn't have phthalates. Thank goodness! At least hindi ako tataba sa kaka-snorkeling, di ba?
April 10 - Galit sa Pera
Unlike before, we don't buy groceries anymore on a regular basis. Pag may pera, well and good. Pag wala, Oca just gives a small amount to the maid, enough for food for a day or two.
Anyway, today is one of those rare let's-do-the-groceries day. And say -- aside from the groceries, bumili pa ang hubby ng rice cooker (nasira ng mimay ang aming rice cooker for the nth time!). Plus, two boxes of GSM Blue for the employees' summer outing.
Thought balloon naming dalawa on our way home: naku, baka isipin ng mga maid -- "Mayaman ngayon si sir. Maka-bale nga."
Thank goodness hindi naman sila bumale.
Actually, that's a thought that has come across my mind many times already. Parang nakaka-guilty to spend on yourself tapos pag humingi ng tulong ang iyong employees, tatanggihan mo.
Pero naman -- can't we be galit sa pera once in a while?

April 9 - My Divi Reunion
It's been quite some time since I last went to Divisoria. Just over a year ago, when I was the purchaser of supplies for the parlor, I used to go there at least once a week.
Went there to buy uniforms for our office outing. There's a lot of demolition and construction going on pala. Good to see progress, 'no?
If you ask me, what Divi really needs is serious cleaning. The streets aren't just dirty, they're grimy. The esteros are filthy. And the street vendors -- wipe them out, please! Unfair competition na siya to legitimate store owners. Ang hirap pang mag move around with them hogging the streets.

April 3 - Black Saturday
When I was young, pag Good Friday, there's always the Station of the Cross around the village.
Come Easter Sunday naman, there's the Salubong. In the wee hours of the morning, the images of the Virgin Mary and the Risen Christ would meet at some point. The highlight of the event would always be the angel lifting Mama Mary's veil. Every year, may bagong contraption or gimmick na maiisipan ang simbahan. And every year, the spectators, especially the kids, would watch in awe.
In between these two major events in the Christian world is Black Saturday. In Christmas terms, this is actually Christmas eve. There's a very lengthy mass around 9or 10 PM, which even my very pious mom rarely attends.
In my family right now, there's nothing much. Well, Oca's busy with a project. The kids -- wala lang. Medyo in pain because of sunburn.
What a Blah Saturday.

April 2 - Accidental Penitensya
How do you sacrifice when you're on vacation?
Well, this morning we didn't eat the can of tuna that we bought for breakfast. Pero kung tutuusin, wala lang kasing umeffort manghiram ng can opener from Aling Irene, owner of the resort.
We left the resort around lunch time. Our plan was to look for a place that sold packed lunch and have a picnic at Mt. Samat. Syempre wala kaming mahanap. Nalipasan na rin naman ng gutom, we just went ahead, saw the museum and even went up to the Dambana ng Kagitingan -- a huge cross monument -- on foot! May kataasan at kalayuan din yun.
Pagdating sa taas, we ate ice cream. Picture-taking. Wee-wee break din for D' Gob.
On our way home, we just dropped by one of the gas stations along NLEX for our lunch cum dinner. Yellow Cab has become a Good Friday tradition. Weird choice for a Good Friday meal. Nagsomekindafasting naman kami eh! Yah right...

April 1 - Visita A La Playa
We've been going to the beach every Holy Week for some time now (mga Hudyo!) Pero may somekinda penitensya rin naman kasi we never book a reservation. Kaya taun-taon, may dramang "There's no space for you at the inn."
The hubby kasi likes to go on unplanned outings. This year, the only things we decided on were:
1. We'll go north - Bagac. Bataan specifically
2. We'll bring baon, but only chicherya and drinks
Syempre pagdating namin doon, wala kaming matuluyan. We asked from the pinakajologs resort to the medyo jologs to the pangmayaman (Montemar). Lahat walang bakante!
Buti na lang, as we made a stop at the gas station, Oca came across a streamer of FLOEN resort. May number. He called and our luck -- may bakante. It took some time for us to find the resort. At least it was well worth it.
FLOEN is far from five-star. But at least it's relatively clean and not so crowded. We stayed in the caretaker's cottage, which is a nipa hut with very modest amenities. May isang kama na may kutson, dalawang electric fan, sariling banyo. Walang tiles, de buhos ang toilet, pero at least may tubig. Kung hindi ka maarte, pwede na rin.
The owner is Aling Irene, a charming lady with a very nice smile. Simple lang siya. Who'd ever think she owns vast tracks of land plus both the Shell and Petron gas stations sa bayan?
Oca and I decided tutularan namin si Aling Irene... pag yumaman kami. Yayaman pa kaya kami? Hamo, pagdarasal natin 'yan ngayong Semana Santa.

Oca and I decided tutularan namin si Aling Irene... pag yumaman kami. Yayaman pa kaya kami? Hamo, pagdarasal natin 'yan ngayong Semana Santa.

March 6 - Hello, Garces?

Andy said, "Mama, I have bad news. Baka hindi ako maka-march sa graduation."
Whaaa--?! Pero late na ako. He mentioned something about a comment that he posted on facebook about this teacher named Garces. "Di ba I just told you that you should be very careful of what you write on Facebook? Hmph." Oh well. What's done is done.
Anyway, as soon as I got online, I immediately searched for this Garces picture. Around 16 students posted comments making fun of this funny picture. Some nastier than the others. But obviously all in the spirit of fun. Syempre all 16 students na-asst. principal's office. The parents of all 16 were also called for a conference on this matter.
Andy's entry: Mukhang wild tarsier. hahaha!
No, Andy. Looks more like a laughing hyena to me. Ngak!
Anuveh!? You mean, this is the reason why my son's not going to march come Graduation Day? Give me a break...
March 1 - Ready, Get Set...
Summer!!! Ano kaya ang pagkakaabalahan ng mga jugets this time? Dati, I felt it was a must for the kids to have some kind of activity during summer. Taekwondo? Guitar lessons?
But now that budget is tight, mabuti pa matulog na lang kayo. Maybe that will add a few inches to your height.

February 28 - So Little Time
It's another jampacked Sunday for the whole family. Andy has a football game and an AP group project to do at Pesit's house. Koko has to do this project and he also needs to have his hair cut. Oca has to finish something and he also has to drop by MC Homes later. Ako naman - I have to think of executional ideas for the pitch next week. I also need to do some interviews.
Busy, busy, busy... Tapos syempre lahat late magising. Haynaku...
Magsisimba pa.
Buti pa si Gob. Yarrrr ever.

February 27 - Andy's First Date
Have I told you that Andy has announced to us last Sunday that Trish is already his girlfriend?
Today they went on a date, sa birthday party ng friend ni Andy. The party was at Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, dinner, parang debut pero lalaki yung celebrant.
Plan A ni Andy was to borrow the APV para may sasakyan siya panghatid-sundo kay Trisha. Syempre hindi ako pumayag. Wala pa siyang license, 'no.
Plan B was to take the taxi. Hmmm... bukod sa mahal aabutin n'ya, that could send the wrong message to people who might see them, di ba?
Plan C is for me to drive him to Trisha's house. Trisha kasi, also wants me to help her pick a dress for the party. Out of town yata nanay n'ya. Datapwa't nice thought that she trusts my taste, ang awkward naman. Me going to her room, picking her dress, maybe even helping her with her hair and make-up, di ba?
So we ended up with plan D. Nagpaka-driver na lang ako all the way, minus na yung stylist duties pa ha. Kasama ko si Koko and Gob, we had take-out Jollibee burgers while watching a movie to kill time as Andy partied the night away.
After the movie, we bought cotton candy. Nagtira kami for Andy and Trish. Hindi naman nila kinain. Sabi ni Koko habang hinahatid ni Andy si Trish sa may doorstep: "Hinda nila kinain eh cute pa naman 'to for couples." Ganun?!

February 26 - Beware of Atty. Torralba
He's supposed to be this ex-BIR guy who now works at Customs. He used to constantly call our accounting people to remind them about due dates of this and that tax.
One day, tumawag siya to offer Acer laptops at only P15,000 per unit. There were only 7 units left and tipong now or never ang offer.
Two of my officemates kumagat sa deal. One of them went to the pier this morning to get the laptops. Atty. Torralba, or so she thought(first time for her to meet him in person), met her sa may gate. He got the P30,000 cold cash pero hindi pinapasok officemate ko kasi only authorized people are allowed to enter daw. My officemate waited... and waited... and waited... as the supposed Atty. Torralba handled the processing of documents.
Eh ang tagal. So, my officemate tried to ask for him from the guard. It turns out -- WALA PALANG ATTY. TORRALBA NA NAGTATRABAHO SA CUSTOMS! Ganun?!
Goodbye P30,000. Wishing na lang for bad karma to befall on Atty. Torralba. At matuto na lang sa age-old moral lesson na 'to: If it's too good to be true... IT IS!

February 25 - Star Mall Wins Over SM

That is, pagdating sa whole day parking.
You see, to save on gas and parking expenses, pagdala ko yung APV, I just park it somewhere and take the bus to Makati.
Star Mall is near the bus terminal, it's cheaper at P40 versus SM's P45 at yung mas concern ko - pag sara na yung mall, walang problema pumasok sa parking kasi you can just pass through the ramp (it's just one level down). Yung sa SM, you have to explain pa sa guard na you left the car sa parking nila, tapos kung pinatay na nila yung escalator, joskoday - you'll have to walk up three levels!
E sometimes I'm in Ortigas na before 7:00. Kung hindi naman ako mag-eexercise that morning, what I do is hear mass na lang muna at St. Francis.
So there - Star Mall wins!
February 24 - Visitation of the Sick
This morning I went to St. Luke's to visit my friend Charmaine, who just had an operation the day before. I thought it was just a cyst. But it turns out to be cancer of the thyroid!
Parang -- wow, cancer ito. Heavy. Pero nakakatawa ang Charmaine. Bagong rebond when she found out about it, syempre ang concern -- baka maglagas ang beautiful straight hair kung magche-chemo siya. Thankfully, radiation therapy lang daw kailangan n'ya and the doctor says ligtas daw ang buhok n'ya (sigh).
When I saw her, nakaupo na siya and jolly as can be. Kwento ever datapwat sounding like Inday Garutay siya (the thyroid kasi is near the voice box). Ang concern naman ngayon - paano pa siya magvivideoke nito with this horrible voice?
Anyway, whoever's reading this -- please extend a little prayer for Charmaine. In four weeks she starts her radiation therapy.
Nga pala - some people ask why I visit the sick. Well, it's one of the positive influences ni Charmaine sa akin. Palagi siyang nagaayang magvisit ng sick colleagues namin (first si Jover, then si Bong), ako naman ay kaladkarin lang. Sa akin naman, I guess it's just following the Golden Rule: Do unto others what you would like others to do unto you.

February 22 - School Hopping

We're looking for a new school for Koko.
Repeat or not, we're seriously thinking of transferring him from Lourdes. He's not thriving there at imbis na pilitin, we'd rather transfer him to a school where he can shine and better hone his talents and boost his self confidence. Ang requirements for the new school would be:
2. Closer location - so Koko has more time to study (yah right)
3. May preschool - para mabantayan n'ya si D'Gob (or should it be the other way around?)
4. Affordable tuition fee - With D'Gob going to school and Andy going to college, medyo tight ang budget
5. Quality education - kahit na hindi kilala, syempre dapat yung makakatulong pa rin kay Koko academically and prepare him for college
Today we visited three schools in Brookside. The top contender among our choices is Hope Academy. One section lang per year level, maximum of 30 students per class. It's just a jeepney ride away at may preschool din siya. The tuition fee is P40,000+ but they do have a plan that lets you pay an initial amount of P5000 only. Mukha namang okay yung pagturo nila kasi the school directress seems to be very proactive and concerned about the welfare of her students.
Aside from all these reasons, okay naman yung facilities nila. May computer lab and speech lab. May split type aircon pa bawat classroom. English ang medium of instruction. Yung science and math subjects nila may MSA (parang Kumon yata yun). May basketball varsity team pa sila that gets to compete with the big schools kasi it's a member of this association of schools ek (the only one na member sa whole of Cainta!) Tapos when we were being toured by Ms. Santos, the school directress, some of the students happily greeted her: "Good morning, Ma'am." Magagalang at mukhang matitino ang mga estudyante!
Sana Koko gets accepted. Anyway, whatever happens, sana we'll make the right choice.

February 21 - Write Your Name
D'Gob knows how to type her name after playing a computer game. Datapwa't, nagulat pa rin ako kahapon when, for the first time, D'Gob actually wrote her name! As in, she took a piece of paper and a pencil, tapos without prodding, just wrote it! Even drew a person's face next to it.
Wrong spelling nga lang. I wrote the correct spelling sa ilalim. Then she wrote her name again, this time correctly.
Wow genius!
February 20 - A Boy in Love
May nililigawan si Andy and his tsismosa mom knows it. Her name is Trish - she's the sister of his teammate sa soccer varsity.
Today, if my hunch is right, he's giving her this cute brown teddy bear. I saw the bear on his bed last Wednesday and he said it's part of the decoration for the school fair's kissing booth. Syempre kahapon, second day of the fair, it was still in his room. Decoration huh?
Kanina may dala siyang paper bag with something the size of a teddy bear inside. I didn't bother to ask. Baka magalit sa akin si Oca who has forbidden me from asking about our son's lovelife.
O sige na nga. I just hope the relationship stays sweet and wholesome.
February 19 - Fasting
Do you know of anyone who really fasts? As in, one meal a day lang? I don't. Usually there's some kind of excuse, di ba? Mine is -- whenever I get hungry, I think my blood sugar drops. Minsan nagiging clammy ang hands and I feel really weak.
Kanya-kanyang rason. Maybe that's why the Church says if you can't fast, you can just think up of another form of sacrifice. A priest suggested fasting from Facebook. Hmmm...mahirap yata yun.

February 18 - Agua Bendita

Ito na yata ang pinaka-out-of-this-world concept for a story. May twin sisters - one is normal but evil, the other has a physical defect but a kind heart. A hydroid, if there's such a thing. Tapos, pag submerged siya sa water, she turns into a real person. Wow pare, ano kayang tinira ng writer nito?
Anyway, for some reason, normal twin gets insecure because of abnormal twin. If you were her, what would be your evil plan? Someone said he'll lock Agua in the freezer. Ako, siguro leave her in the freezer tapos finely grind her. And then serve with langka, red mongo, saging, garbanzos topped with Alaska milk and leche flan. Yum-yum!
February 17 - Jam
I rode the bus in Ayala around 6:30 PM. Got a nice seat by the window.
Took me two hours to get to Robinsons Galleria and another hour to reach Valley Golf. Buti na lang nakaupo ako sa bus. Otherwise, major bad trip.
Ba't ang traffic? Kasi Baclaran Day? Ngak.

February 16 - Field Day
The entire Lourdes School practiced long and hard for this. We parents paid quite a hefty amount for the costumes. Kaya I wouldn't miss the boys' field demonstration for anything.
Three hours long ang show. Not as perfect as the Cebu inmates' dance, pero impressive nonetheless. Very colorful. And getting thousands of roudy boys to perform is a feat in itself, di ba?
By the end of the show, masakit na tuhod ko at talampakan. Gutom na rin kasi it was lunchtime. Gastos na naman. Oh well...
