Bob Ong is a Pinoy writer who writes in colloquial Tagalog. And his books are short enough to read in one sitting, while waiting for DGob's 11:30 dismissal time.
Abnkkbsa N Pla Ako is about the writer's childhood. The story takes you through his preschool, elementary, high school and college years... hanggang nagtrabaho na siya as a teacher. Kind of reminds me of Roald Dahl's Boy. But in the latter, the writer becomes a pilot.
Alamat ng Gubat naman is about this crab named Tong who was sent on a mission by his father the King Crab. Tong has to bring home the puso ng saging kasi yun daw yung cure para sa kanyang ailing father. Along the way he meets several animal characters na nagrerepresent ng iba't ibang members ng ating society. Uma-Animal Farm siya, actually. But very entertaining, I must say!
And what makes me super green with envy -- required reading na sa school yung Alamat ng Gubat!
Congrats, Bob Ong! You're my idol.

June 24 - CAPananginamo!
Sa kasamaang palad, bumili kami ng CAP way back in the 90s. We got it from my sister-in-law who migrated to Canada.
In 2006, noong nagkakagulo na sa CAP, the hubby and I decided to terminate our plans. Ang makukuha namin for the termination: P20,000 per plan. Fine.
We were told to follow up in 3 months. More than 3 months pa nga when I did follow up. An irritated clerk told me to just check the website.
Every now and then, I would check their website -- www.cap.com.ph. Syempre never umappear yung notification that our checks are ready.
Today, I decided to visit the head office. Again, I was told to check the website. Pero sabi ng ale, the check should be ready in 3 to 5 months. Ganun?!
I also checked on the status of my sister-in-law's remaining plan, which was also for termination. Ang weird kasi according to their records, hindi daw siya for termination. For availment daw siya. (Whatever!) Follow up daw in 3 to 6 months.
I asked the other poor folks who also terminated their plans and were waiting for their checks. Pare-pareho ang kwento -- one million years in the making ang mga lintek na tseke!
And worse, 2 GIVES pa magbayad ang CAPananginamo! Anuveh!

June 23 - C5 Parking Lot
I rode the FX on my way home. Wala pang Makati Ave., tulog na ako. I woke up somewhere after the Bagong Ilog flyover along C5. All the vehicles were at a standstill... siguro mga 30 minutes din yun. Basta ang tagal.
Then, they decided to move. At first slowly. Tapos later on, towards Ortigas Ext. na, mas nag gain ng speed. Surprisingly nga, ni walang traffic sa Rosario.
Ano yun?

June 22 - FX tip
I overheard from my seatmate sa FX na pauwi mas maraming Valley Golf FX sa Valero vs. sa Standard Chartered na sakayan. Masubukan nga.
June 21 - Father's Day Gifts
I gave my Dad cake... because he loves sweets.
What did I give the dad of my kids? I wrapped his songbooks in plastic, cleaned his work area and found his lost keys. O di ba matipid?

June 20 - Last Two Minutes
Almost closing time na when we had our dinner at Tokyo Tokyo, SM City Taytay. Sobrang limited na lang ang offering nila, as in, almost everything was "not available".
Anyway, there was enough food for the five of us. Great! Pero yung iced tea nila, walang ice. Ganun?! Parang tapsilog without egg. O kaya cafe latte na black. Ngak!

June 19 - Taekwondo or Ballet
I attended the orientation in DGob's preschool and I found out that they're offering taekwondo and ballet as extracurricular activities for the kids.
Imagine DGob wearing a white taekwondo outfit and doing a flying kick -- "Hyaaaah!"
Or DGob wearing a white tutu dancing to the tune of "Swan Lake".
Hmmm...
Huwag na lang.

June 11 - UltraLipo
I'm so lucky. My life is full of unique experiences that make it oh so colorful. Colorful enough to write in a blog.
Today, I will write about Ultrasonic Liposuction. You see, we have this slimming/derma clinic client, Face & Figure Center, na hindi ko naman talaga account. The bosses decided that the team should try some of their services to get to know their products better. I just happened to be there so napasama ako sa mga nag "try".
When I asked the receptionist/attendant what service I should try, immediately she replied -- "UltraLipo!" Aba-- ganun na ba akong kataba?
Anyway, libre siya. Kahit insultuhin n'ya pa ako, deadma.
I was led to this little room and made to wear this velcroed tapis and slippers. Dapat no metals on your body. So all jewelries you have to put in this jewel box sa tabi. The attendant measured my upper, middle and lower bilbil.
The entire procedure took around an hour. A liquid was applied on my tummy. Then, this plantsa-like apparatus was used to massage my flabby belly. This is supposed to "crack" the fat cells. At first wala lang. Then, may heat na involved. Then, my something na kinabit sa kabilbilan na pumipitik-pitik. This is supposed to "dissolve" the fat.
After the procedure, the attendant measured me again. Tadah -- lost 1 inch sa upper, another inch sa middle and half inch sa lower bilbil. Really?!
Ilang sessions naman ang kailangan para ako maging ganap na sexy mujer with an hour-glass figure? Ten sessions. Sa halagang... P45,000!!! Not bad, kung tutuusin. Pero wala lang talaga akong pera. Ngak.
Face & Figure Center is located at Unit 1509 Medical Plaza Ortigas Bldg., San Miguel Ave., Ortigas Center. If you're going there, must-try yung massage chair nila sa reception area. Sobrang winner!

June 8 - Packo's Grille
Normally, after we service this client in Caloocan, at pag kasama sa meeting sina Arleen, Kakat, Bobby and Iten at ako, we usually eat lunch at Bagoong Club. Bagoong Club is in the Scout area (I forget which street). Super sarap ng Bagoong Crispy Pata and Gambas nila. I also like their desserts.
Today, Bobby and Iten decided to treat us somewhere else (yes, it's always their treat). Packo's Grille is near ABS-CBN. No, we didn't see any celebs having a late lunch. I particularly liked their Binagoongan (bagoong na naman?) Just the right blend of salty-sweetness-linamnam. Yummy!

June 7 - Bus Sign
Seen on a bus: "Bawal magbenta ng itlog, mani at mais dito." But I guess puwede ang candy, casoy and even yung nira-raket ng iba na Zesto. Weird.
June 6 - Sunday Dinner with Zombies
Toka ko ngayon ang dinner. Dapat madali lang lutuin o kaya yung pwedeng ihabilin na lang sa mimay para may time for "Plants vs Zombies".
On the menu: Grilled Oriental Chicken (care of the Julius Maggi Kitchen), barbecue and linasing na hipon (recipes from In Good Taste magazine). Madali lang siya, promise.

After our little get-together, naglaro uli ako. Natapos ko the whole adventure in 3 days!
Wow.

June 5 - Katakawan
Yesterday, we went back-to-school shopping at SM Marikina. We started in the afternoon and by the time we were paying at the cashier, it was already 8:30 PM! No wonder D Gob was complaining that her tummy was aching.
Andy and Koko still had to check out something in one of the boutiques. So D Gob and I went ahead to the Food Court to grab something to eat. Tamad na akong mag-isip. So I just ordered one whole lechon manok and four cups of Java rice. Iniisip ko -- anyway I can always bring home the leftovers.
Walang natira.

June 4 - Caught Swerving
Yun ang sabi ng pulis.
I was in Cubao area, somewhere along Aurora Blvd. when it happened. At first nasa left lane ako. When I saw there was an intersection with traffic light ahead, nagsignal ako and moved to the middle lane. Malayo pa naman ako, mga four cars away from the intersection when I changed lane. Swerving daw. Ganun?!
I thought my charm would work. It usually does. But I have a pimple right between my eyes. Akala ko tinubuan ako ng third eye. Pero hindi, pimple lang pala. Maybe that's why charm didn't work.
ME: Sige na...
Pang merienda ba? Hetong sa 'yo! Hmph!
Anyway, I still think that wasn't swerving. Kasi from what I know, dalawang lanes ang tatawirin mo to be considered swerving. That, Virginia, is called changing lanes.

June 3 - The Zombies
Today I was introduced to the exciting world of "Plants vs Zombies". At first I thought it was a ho-hum game.
But it turns out, game of strategy pala siya. Which weapons will work best for you? Where should you place them para mas madali mong ma-defeat ang zombies?
I played until I was teary-eyed. Tears of joy?! Naman! Eye strain lang po. Ahihihi!

June 2 - Signs
Maagang umuwi mga boss. Is this a sign that I should go home early?
Maybe it's a sign that I should leave early and go to the Sun office in Galleria for my replacement SIM.
Tapos, when I looked at the Valley Golf FX, my favorite seat - front, window side - was vacant! Bongga!
It's a sign! Makauwi na nga.

June 1 - This is my Blood
A positive. Rare, precious A positive. And they rejected it.
I was supposed to donate blood for someone's transfusion. Sa Makati Med siya and the Blood Bank is in the new wing, kaya medyo excited ako. (Ako lang yata ang nae-excite sa bloodletting)
But I didn't pass the screening. Kaunti raw ang white blood cells ko. The reason: puyat or possible exposure to some virus. Ganun?!

May 31 - Death and Mystery
Last Saturday, an office mate's hubby suffered a heart attack. Today, I just found out that he didn't survive it.
Grabe, shocking. Never really met the guy. Pero the thought na any time, your significant other could die... without warning... parang thought-provoking, 'no?
Anyway, the morning was spent talking about Ariel's death. In life, he never joined any of our office get-togethers. Sobrang anti-social, you'd think he was a figment of the imagination. Ngayon, he was cremated soon after death and our friend requested na huwag na raw kaming bumisita.
Tinooneenooneenooneenooooo... (that's supposed to sound like "The Twilight Zone, okay?")

May 24 - Baguio on a Budget
Sabi ko na nga ba, even if you want to, ang hirap talaga to keep a budget when you're out of town. Baguio pa.
According to Iten, our boss and promotor sa pagpunta sa Baguio, total expense was around P9,000. Sagot na raw nila half. Divided among ourselves (including the kids) our gastos amounted to P400 per person (not counting D Gob)... plus share ko sa gas ni Nyora -- P1,000... Plus pasalubong...
* 2 kilos strawberries at P150 each - p300
* 2 walis - P140
*10 packs kulangot at 3 for P100 (bonus 1 pack) - P300
* 2 kilos broccoli at P25/kilo - P50
- 1 jar strawberry jam - P80
- 1 bottle Romana's peanuts - P120
- 3 sets woven placemats at P180/set - P540
- 1 kilo longganisa
Plus some other stuff I bought:
* Oca's shirt - P350
* Koko's bonnet - P100
* Andy and Koko's slippers at PP50 each - P100
* Gob's Dora crocs - P100
* Gob's socks at 3 for P100 - P100
Naykupu! Ayoko nang kwentahin. May lunch pa sa Chow King before going home. Pero no regrets. We all had so much fun. :)

May 23 - Marloboro Country
While in Baguio, we stayed at Tito Bob's house. Not my tito. Bobby's tito. Tito Bob is a super-rich guy who owns #1 Marlboro Country -- this huge estate with its own gym na parang clubhouse. Marlboro Country is also home to hundreds of manok na pansabong, a very beautiful Siberian husky and a shih-tzu pretending to be a guard dog.
The house has five rooms, all fully-furnished, may somekinda spa pa for each banyo. Yung kitchen kumpleto rin sa gamit. Mas kumpleto pa yata sa sarili kong kusina (to think it's only a vacation house).
The gym has a badminton court, a billiard table, pingpong table, fussball... Sa labas may nice gazebo and an area where you can have a bonfire.
How does anyone get this rich? Tito Bobby's main business is fish hauling. And since money begets money, yumaman siya nang yumaman and continues to get rich with every business venture he gets into.
Trivia: Willie Revillame bought his yacht from Tito Bobby. It's bigger and more luxurious than the presidential yacht. What a bonggang bonggang bangka!

May 22 - Against All Odds

Parang ayaw kaming papuntahin ng Baguio. We left Makati around 9:00 PM. Me and the kids just hitched with the Nyora. By around midnight, we reached Hacienda Luisita. When suddenly-- pffft... Flat tire?!! A cutter blade did it and since nag running flat na siya, sira na siya forever. Irreparable.
Tama ba 'yun? But what can we do? Delikado magtravel ng long distance without a spare tire.
So off we went. Tulog ako most of the time until I heard the Nyora scream.
Nabangga kami. Anuveh!? It was around 4 AM and we were along the zigzag road, a few meters before the Lion. Super light bump lang naman. Didn't even hear the impact. (But then who could hear the sound of impact with the Nyora's scream?) At first, sabi ng nabangga namin P300 daw yung pagawa. Then just when I was about to give him the P300, biglang labor pa lang daw yun and the cost suddenly went up to P500. Ganun?!
Buti na lang, the Nyora's driver Remi haggled and got the price down to P400. Fine!
We reached Baguio around 5:30 AM. Muntik na kaming mabangga uli pero buti na lang the other vehicle missed us (sigh).
Boy -- this is gonna be some weekend!
May 12 - Carlo Lorenzo
Today is the birthday of my younger brother Carlo who had Down's Syndrome. He was in and out of the hospital since the day he was born. The last straw was broncho-pneumonia. He was almost 3 years old when he joined our Creator. If he had lived, he would be 38 years old.
Today is also the birthday of my dear friend and officemate Madz. Si Madz ay buhay na buhay pa and she's 30 years old. Wala lang.
