February 28 - So Little Time

It's another jampacked Sunday for the whole family. Andy has a football game and an AP group project to do at Pesit's house. Koko has to do this project and he also needs to have his hair cut. Oca has to finish something and he also has to drop by MC Homes later. Ako naman - I have to think of executional ideas for the pitch next week. I also need to do some interviews.

Busy, busy, busy... Tapos syempre lahat late magising. Haynaku...

Magsisimba pa.

Buti pa si Gob. Yarrrr ever.

February 27 - Andy's First Date

Have I told you that Andy has announced to us last Sunday that Trish is already his girlfriend?

Today they went on a date, sa birthday party ng friend ni Andy. The party was at Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, dinner, parang debut pero lalaki yung celebrant.

Plan A ni Andy was to borrow the APV para may sasakyan siya panghatid-sundo kay Trisha. Syempre hindi ako pumayag. Wala pa siyang license, 'no.

Plan B was to take the taxi. Hmmm... bukod sa mahal aabutin n'ya, that could send the wrong message to people who might see them, di ba?

Plan C is for me to drive him to Trisha's house. Trisha kasi, also wants me to help her pick a dress for the party. Out of town yata nanay n'ya. Datapwa't nice thought that she trusts my taste, ang awkward naman. Me going to her room, picking her dress, maybe even helping her with her hair and make-up, di ba?

So we ended up with plan D. Nagpaka-driver na lang ako all the way, minus na yung stylist duties pa ha. Kasama ko si Koko and Gob, we had take-out Jollibee burgers while watching a movie to kill time as Andy partied the night away.

After the movie, we bought cotton candy. Nagtira kami for Andy and Trish. Hindi naman nila kinain. Sabi ni Koko habang hinahatid ni Andy si Trish sa may doorstep: "Hinda nila kinain eh cute pa naman 'to for couples." Ganun?!

February 26 - Beware of Atty. Torralba

He's supposed to be this ex-BIR guy who now works at Customs. He used to constantly call our accounting people to remind them about due dates of this and that tax.

One day, tumawag siya to offer Acer laptops at only P15,000 per unit. There were only 7 units left and tipong now or never ang offer.

Two of my officemates kumagat sa deal. One of them went to the pier this morning to get the laptops. Atty. Torralba, or so she thought(first time for her to meet him in person), met her sa may gate. He got the P30,000 cold cash pero hindi pinapasok officemate ko kasi only authorized people are allowed to enter daw. My officemate waited... and waited... and waited... as the supposed Atty. Torralba handled the processing of documents.

Eh ang tagal. So, my officemate tried to ask for him from the guard. It turns out -- WALA PALANG ATTY. TORRALBA NA NAGTATRABAHO SA CUSTOMS! Ganun?!

Goodbye P30,000. Wishing na lang for bad karma to befall on Atty. Torralba. At matuto na lang sa age-old moral lesson na 'to: If it's too good to be true... IT IS!

February 25 - Star Mall Wins Over SM

photo from wikimedia.org
That is, pagdating sa whole day parking.

You see, to save on gas and parking expenses, pagdala ko yung APV, I just park it somewhere and take the bus to Makati.

Star Mall is near the bus terminal, it's cheaper at P40 versus SM's P45 at yung mas concern ko - pag sara na yung mall, walang problema pumasok sa parking kasi you can just pass through the ramp (it's just one level down). Yung sa SM, you have to explain pa sa guard na you left the car sa parking nila, tapos kung pinatay na nila yung escalator, joskoday - you'll have to walk up three levels! Medyo bad trip yun kung pagod ka na, noh!

Ang minus points lang ng Star Mall - they open at 7:30 AM. E sometimes I'm in Ortigas na before 7:00. Kung hindi naman ako mag-eexercise that morning, what I do is hear mass na lang muna at St. Francis.

So there - Star Mall wins! Kahit na mukhang chaka yung mall, meron rin naman pala siyang good points.

February 24 - Visitation of the Sick

This morning I went to St. Luke's to visit my friend Charmaine, who just had an operation the day before. I thought it was just a cyst. But it turns out to be cancer of the thyroid!

Parang -- wow, cancer ito. Heavy. Pero nakakatawa ang Charmaine. Bagong rebond when she found out about it, syempre ang concern -- baka maglagas ang beautiful straight hair kung magche-chemo siya. Thankfully, radiation therapy lang daw kailangan n'ya and the doctor says ligtas daw ang buhok n'ya (sigh).

When I saw her, nakaupo na siya and jolly as can be. Kwento ever datapwat sounding like Inday Garutay siya (the thyroid kasi is near the voice box). Ang concern naman ngayon - paano pa siya magvivideoke nito with this horrible voice?

Anyway, whoever's reading this -- please extend a little prayer for Charmaine. In four weeks she starts her radiation therapy.

Nga pala - some people ask why I visit the sick. Well, it's one of the positive influences ni Charmaine sa akin. Palagi siyang nagaayang magvisit ng sick colleagues namin (first si Jover, then si Bong), ako naman ay kaladkarin lang. Sa akin naman, I guess it's just following the Golden Rule: Do unto others what you would like others to do unto you.

February 22 - School Hopping

photo from the hopeacademy website
We're looking for a new school for Koko.

Repeat or not, we're seriously thinking of transferring him from Lourdes. He's not thriving there at imbis na pilitin, we'd rather transfer him to a school where he can shine and better hone his talents and boost his self confidence. Ang requirements for the new school would be:
1. Smaller student to teacher ratio - para mas mabigyan siya ng attention ng teachers
2. Closer location - so Koko has more time to study (yah right)
3. May preschool - para mabantayan n'ya si D'Gob (or should it be the other way around?)
4. Affordable tuition fee - With D'Gob going to school and Andy going to college, medyo tight ang budget
5. Quality education - kahit na hindi kilala, syempre dapat yung makakatulong pa rin kay Koko academically and prepare him for college

Today we visited three schools in Brookside. The top contender among our choices is Hope Academy. One section lang per year level, maximum of 30 students per class. It's just a jeepney ride away at may preschool din siya. The tuition fee is P40,000+ but they do have a plan that lets you pay an initial amount of P5000 only. Mukha namang okay yung pagturo nila kasi the school directress seems to be very proactive and concerned about the welfare of her students.

Aside from all these reasons, okay naman yung facilities nila. May computer lab and speech lab. May split type aircon pa bawat classroom. English ang medium of instruction. Yung science and math subjects nila may MSA (parang Kumon yata yun). May basketball varsity team pa sila that gets to compete with the big schools kasi it's a member of this association of schools ek (the only one na member sa whole of Cainta!) Tapos when we were being toured by Ms. Santos, the school directress, some of the students happily greeted her: "Good morning, Ma'am." Magagalang at mukhang matitino ang mga estudyante!

Sana Koko gets accepted. Anyway, whatever happens, sana we'll make the right choice.

February 21 - Write Your Name

D'Gob knows how to type her name after playing a computer game. Datapwa't, nagulat pa rin ako kahapon when, for the first time, D'Gob actually wrote her name! As in, she took a piece of paper and a pencil, tapos without prodding, just wrote it! Even drew a person's face next to it.

Wrong spelling nga lang. I wrote the correct spelling sa ilalim. Then she wrote her name again, this time correctly.

Wow genius!

February 20 - A Boy in Love

May nililigawan si Andy and his tsismosa mom knows it. Her name is Trish - she's the sister of his teammate sa soccer varsity.

Today, if my hunch is right, he's giving her this cute brown teddy bear. I saw the bear on his bed last Wednesday and he said it's part of the decoration for the school fair's kissing booth. Syempre kahapon, second day of the fair, it was still in his room. Decoration huh?

Kanina may dala siyang paper bag with something the size of a teddy bear inside. I didn't bother to ask. Baka magalit sa akin si Oca who has forbidden me from asking about our son's lovelife.

O sige na nga. I just hope the relationship stays sweet and wholesome.

February 19 - Fasting

Do you know of anyone who really fasts? As in, one meal a day lang? I don't. Usually there's some kind of excuse, di ba? Mine is -- whenever I get hungry, I think my blood sugar drops. Minsan nagiging clammy ang hands and I feel really weak.

Kanya-kanyang rason. Maybe that's why the Church says if you can't fast, you can just think up of another form of sacrifice. A priest suggested fasting from Facebook. Hmmm...mahirap yata yun.

February 18 - Agua Bendita

Ito na yata ang pinaka-out-of-this-world concept for a story. May twin sisters - one is normal but evil, the other has a physical defect but a kind heart. Ang matindi -- yung defect n'ya para siyang taong tubig. A hydroid, if there's such a thing. Tapos, pag submerged siya sa water, she turns into a real person. Wow pare, ano kayang tinira ng writer nito?

Anyway, for some reason, normal twin gets insecure because of abnormal twin. If you were her, what would be your evil plan? Someone said he'll lock Agua in the freezer. Ako, siguro leave her in the freezer tapos finely grind her. And then serve with langka, red mongo, saging, garbanzos topped with Alaska milk and leche flan. Yum-yum!

February 17 - Jam

I rode the bus in Ayala around 6:30 PM. Got a nice seat by the window. Malayo na narating ko sa aking panaginip. Pero pag gising ko, syempre nasa Ayala pa rin ako. ANG TRAFFIC - JOSKODAY!

Took me two hours to get to Robinsons Galleria and another hour to reach Valley Golf. Buti na lang nakaupo ako sa bus. Otherwise, major bad trip.

Ba't ang traffic? Kasi Baclaran Day? Ngak.

February 16 - Field Day

The entire Lourdes School practiced long and hard for this. We parents paid quite a hefty amount for the costumes. Kaya I wouldn't miss the boys' field demonstration for anything.

Three hours long ang show. Not as perfect as the Cebu inmates' dance, pero impressive nonetheless. Very colorful. And getting thousands of roudy boys to perform is a feat in itself, di ba?

By the end of the show, masakit na tuhod ko at talampakan. Gutom na rin kasi it was lunchtime. Gastos na naman. Oh well...

February 15 - Rich Lola

When I went jogging this morning, I saw for the second time this rich old lady on a wheelchair with an entourage of not less than nine people. Two of these were policemen. The others were a mix of nurses, nurse aids, taga-hawak ng payong, taga-paypay, taga-masahe...

Sino kaya ang mayamang matandang ito? She was wearing a regular housedress pero ang mga brilyante sa hikaw at daliri -- shining, shimmering, splendid!

Lola, isdatchu?

February 14 - Will You Be My Valentine?

Funny how as you grow old, you care less and less about how your Valentine's Day will turn out. Mas concern ko pa yung Valentines ng mga anak ko.

This year, Koko has no Valentine. The loverboy has decided to take a break. Si Andy naman, is in denial but I get the feeling there's already a special someone. As for D'Gob, she's forbidden to have a Valentine until she's 18 (or else, lagot siya sa Papa n'ya)

Just when I was reflecting on this, ta-dah! Oca gave me a cute Valentines cake. Sweet.

February 13 - Bahay ni KimmyDora

Today we shot the "First Place" TVC. Location was this big house in Valle Verde, which looked more like a building to me. It's the same house they used for the "KimmyDora" movie.

Industrial and minimalist yung style. Concrete, glass and steel combined. Ang laki ng kitchen -- grabeh! Parang pang cooking school with lots and lots of storage space. Me and my snoopy officemates took a peek inside some of the cabinets ang my gollywow -- the ones we saw were full of silver and china! (Siguro kung bahay ko yun, puno lang siya ng plastic containers, yung iba nawawala pa ang takip.)

They have two industrial-size refrigerators, both filled with neatly piled containers of food. Sobrang you don't see that in real life, one of our art directors had her picture taken in front of the open fridge. Tourist spot?

Pero datapwa't the house was impressive, hindi siya "home". Aba mas cozy pa sa office namin.

Pag manalo ako ng lotto, it won't be on my list of things to buy. Ganun?!

February 12 - The Left and the Right

I was on my way to the parlor for a pedicure when I felt something weird about my sandals. Pagtingin ko, syempre natanggal ang swelas. Yung sa right na paa, tanggal hanggang likod. Yung sa left, the middle portion lang.

Ever notice how the left and the right seem to have the same lifespan? Happened to me several times na. Sabay natanggal ang swelas. Sabay naagnas ang balat. Sabay nadurog ang takong. (Betchabygollywow - ang dalas ko talagang masiraan ng sapatos!)

I think it's romantic (hindi yung pagkasira ng sapatos, gaga!) Pero the thought of not being able to live without your significant other.

Finding a romantic thought in everything ba? Nearing Valentine's Day na kasi.

To all the young (and old) lovers -- Happy Valentines!

February 11 - Ascott

cucumber photo from marthastewart.com/ Ascott photo from hotelpass.com

Yesterday, we had our pre-production meeting at the Ascott, aka Oakwood Suites. Who would've thought that this was once the site of the infamous Oakwood mutiny? Napaka-posh. Thick carpet, wood panelling, five-star restrooms... I must say, magaling pumili ng location ang mga mutineers.

I wonder if they also had cucumber in their drinking water? Tastes kinda weird pero mukhang sosyal.

February 10 - Sala sa Init, Sala sa Lamig

The boss told me that I should've brought up this little detail in the director's board during the preproduction meeting. It's not consistent kasi with the agency board. Feeling ko naman, pareho lang ang naco-communicate, that why I didn't bother to bring it up.

Tapos during the offline presentation for another TV commercial we're doing, I just clarified if the edges of the chroma will be smoother after all the effects are done. The boss, in a very sarcastic manner, said something like: "Of course! Syempre sa online pa yun ginagawa."

Is it because I have my period? Kasi nainis ako. Sensitive?! Tao lang.

February 9 - Should I or Should I Not

Before my long break from advertising, copywriters were obliged to join every step of the production process, even the parts where there isn't any copywriting involved. You had to attend pre-production meetings, shoots and post-production as well.

Now I'm confused. I went to the color-grading of a TV commercial we're doing and my colleague expressed her surprise because I didn't have to. I just said: "Libreng lunch din yun."

Although mas maganda nga na I have lesser on my hands, it feels weird. Maybe it's the capricornous in me. Gotta workity work!

February 8 - Bloody Monday

Imagine - Wednesday na ang pre-production meeting and Saturday na ang shoot, pero our client approved the copy for the TV commercial we're doing only tonight. Talk about last minute!

Grabeh -- dinugo ako dun. As in, literally, niregla ako dahil sa stress. I couldn't get it right. In the end, the boss took over and wrote the final copy. I don't know if I should be glad, frustrated, embarassed... Basta! I'm glad this day is over.

February 7 - Anti-social Homecomer

Went to the HS homecoming of St. Scho Batch 85. I grew up with these girls and I still feel a sense of affinity with them.

Ang weird how I remember the full names of the familiar faces. I saw Regina Garde, Geraldine Gaviola, Erminda Punzalan, Paz Melencio, Cyrene Dela Rosa, Paz Remo, Raquel Maloles, Anne Marie Frias, Christine Agustin, Michelle Lazaro...

Didn't get to talk to any of them though. I was with D'Gob who was in a hurry to go to Jollibee after the show.

Anyway, I doubt if many of them would remember me. I was pretty generic e.

February 6 - San Beda

I have long wanted to see and inquire about San Beda Taytay. It's quite near our place. It's new. And it's Benedictine, like my alma mater St. Scho.

I was thinking, perhaps D'Gob and Koko can study there next school year. So off we went, Oca and I, to see for ourselves. Maganda siya. Fresh air, far from the madding crowd, 20 to 30 students lang per class... Sa labas, may dalawang tourist bus pa with the school emblem. Sosyal!

Pangmayaman talaga! We just found out that tuition for Kinder is around P57,000. For sophomores, it's around P82,000! Okay, what's my plan B again?

February 5 - Imeldific

Today we shot a TV commercial in Vista Real, a subdivision behind Ever Commonwealth. The property was huge! May small basketball court, jacuzzi, and the piece de resistance -- a walk-in closet just for shoes!

February 4 - Confucius, isdatchu?

Hilu-hilong production people asked for the addresses of the wrong accounts people, with the intent of picking them up from their homes for tomorrow's shoot.

Tapos, for some reason, their assigning a separate service vehicle for me, even if the houses of the others to be picked up are actually along the way.

Ang gulo talaga nila. Tsk-tsk. Pero compared to our previous shoot, this is much much less of a headache. Buti naman. (sigh)

February 3 - Link

As I looked through the spam folder of my yahoo, I saw a message from someone named Kathy. She was asking if she could link to my blog from her blog. I replied: Sure. But why?

I hope she replies because I tried to go to her blog, which I thought was the address she stated in her email but the browser issued a warning of some sort. So, was it just a prank or a way to spread some virus? Hmm...

Anyway, to Kathy -- if you're reading this, please reply.

February 2 - Grrrrr...ood Morning!

First, Oca berated me for letting out a little yelp when he almost hit our van. Parang the yelp adds to his morning stress (?)

Then, my seatmate sa FX kept on mumbling: "Ang sikip... ang sikip..." Anubeh -- nakasakay ka sa FX, expect mo nang masikip noh!?

Tapos, the last straw, pag-upo ko sa aking pwesto -- RRRIPPPP. Syempre napunit pantalon ko. Ganun?!!!

February 1 - Die with a T

I have a new diet and I call it "Rice or Dessert." The principle is simple: either I eat rice or dessert. It isn't so difficult, really, since I still get a good dose of carbo. But today I've been getting hungry more often than I usually do. Withdrawal symptoms?

Anyway, while looking for a not-so-sinful snack at 711, I discovered my new favorite. It's called Butter Toasted Sticks. Actually, it's biscocho packed like french fries. Nomnom. Sarap with ChocoLava hot chocolate! Parang mali, 'no? Siguro nga.

January 31 - Four Desserts

We had dinner at Ate Terry's house. Birthday celebration ni Sandro and my son Koko. Bilang contribution, I brought a Toblerone cake from Cake2Go. It turns out that the other guests also brought cakes as well. May Sans Rival and Chocolate Mousse from Red Ribbon and an Ice Cream Cake from Dairy Queen.

Ang dami namang dessert -- or so we thought. Pero syempre when we were done, konti na lang natira. Nyak! Ang tatakaw!

January 30 - Happy Birthday Koko

I gave my gifts first thing in the morning, at the breakfast table. Because although it's a Saturday, the whole family was busy. Koko had remedial classes in the morning. Andy has this IP project that he had to do at his group mate's house. Oca had a million and one things to take care of. Ako naman, may photoshoot.

I thought I would finish by 3 or 4 PM. Syempre hindi. We finished around 6 PM na. Supposed to be by 6 PM magkikita na kami ni Koko sa Lourdes. Dumating ako (with D' Gob) around 7 PM. Si Oca rin, dumating around that time. When we got there, Koko was gone. Oh no -- nagtampo ba ang Koko? Wala pa naman siyang cellphone ngayon.

Thank God Koko is not the tampororot type. He just went to McDo for a snack.

We went to Megamall where Oca bought Koko his gift: a some kind of Tamiya-type tanker with a zillion parts to assemble. We had dinner at El Pollo Loco and then we watched a movie. The birthday boy's choice -- Tooth Fairy. Ganun?! We could've watched Avatar or that Meatballs movie. Pero sige na nga... Happy Birthday, Yokey-pokey!

January 29 - Beige Pumps

We forgot to take a full shot of our Australian talent. So tomorrow, I'll be standing in as her "body double". Despite having quite a number of shoes in my collection, wala akong pumps. Beige pumps, to be specific. So I had to buy a pair before the day's end.

Akala ko madali lang. Beige pumps is pretty generic. Pero hindi pala. Kasi most of the shoes in the shops are wedges. Eh I needed stilettos. Yung ibang nakita ko naman, sobrang plain. Hindi ko maatim na bilhin.

I ended up buying at Cinderella. The brand: Rosanna Pena. Not bad ang design. And the price is okay at P700+. Pero I still don't think I'll be wearing it after the shoot... Siguro kung may kasal...

January 28 - St. Luke's

We went to the new St. Luke's Hospital in The Fort because Oca had to deliver something to my sister's clinic. As expected, the lobby looked like a hotel lobby. Yung hallway going to the canteen, may paintings pa. (Or were they prints?) I hear yung rooms nila each have a plasma TV and DVD player. Bongga.

Pero medyo magulo ang layout. Syempre nawala kami on our way out. I think mas maganda pa rin ang Medical City.

January 27 - The FX and Your Priorities

When riding the FX, you win some, you lose some. If given a choice which seat to take, think of your priorities.

January 26 - The Nyora's Birthday

Arleen, my kumare, seatmate and good friend celebrated her birthday. She spent most of the day answering the numerous greetings on Facebook.

Like what happened to me on my birthday, she also got stumped whenever people she hardly knew greeted her. How do you acknowledge such greetings? With a very impersonal "thank you"?

Do you greet everyone you know on their birthday? Do you really have to?

January 25 - Take 2

It's the second day of the shoot. Medyo nabaril-baril lang yung ibang costumes at yung ayos ng buhok ng ibang talent. But otherwise, the shoot flowed oh so smoothly. Our talent who had oncam dialogue delivered her lines quite well. Kaya ang bilis naming natapos.

Somewhere in my wicked, miserable past, I must have done something good.

January 24 - Zzzzz

I was so exhausted yesterday, in between Facebook and meals, all I did was sleep. Where's the weekend when you need it?

Patulog na ako noong gabi when I realized that no one has texted me regarding the service pickup time for Monday's shoot. Someone from the production crew sent an SMS around 10:30 PM na. Buti na lang gising pa ako. Pero yung responsible talaga for that, syempre nagsend ng text 1 AM na. (Imagine me rolling my eyes at this point.) Wala na akong energy magalit. Deadma.

January 23 - Lights, Camera, Action!

Got home at 1 AM last night. Had two hours of sleep. Was up at a little past 3 in time for the sundo at 4 AM. We had to get to the shoot extra early. Para just in case something's wrong with the set or the costumes, we have time to panic.

Thank God everything somehow fell into place. The costumes were all right. And so was the set. The rug which wasn't there -- it was ordered in the morning and delivered by afternoon. The suit which we needed was bought off the rack.

Of course, there were glitches. Like, there were scenes with oncam dialogue which weren't included in the shot list. (Buti na lang napansin ko.) The suit which they bought -- super ill-fitting. They had to put a zillion pins to make the talent a little more trim. Yung talent na isa naman -- refused to wear her costume. "It's not my style!" Tapos, we realized kulang yung costumes namin. Yung isang scene which I always thought was meant to be the same day as the other scene, dapat pala ibang araw. Therefore, ibang suot. Pero weird -- when I checked the preprod agreements, nakalagay doon na the talents are supposed to wear the same costumes for both scenes.

We didn't shoot everything that we had to shoot. Pagod na kasi lahat. Sa Monday uli. Whew! What a long day.

January 22 - Where's the Costume?

Tomorrow we shoot the first commercial after my long break away from advertising. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang mga pangyayari in between pero parang ang gulo na ngayon. The SOPs I know -- parang wala na. So kakapraning. Parang we're totally not ready for the shoot tomorrow!

Imagine -- 12 midnight na and we still haven't finalized the costumes. Dumating some people from the production house kanina with drawings of costumes which they're having done. Whaaaa-- ?! But it's the first time we're seeing those designs and they're already having them done?! (anuveh!)

On top of this costume brouhaha, syempre at 10 PM, di pa na-brief ang talent kung anong dadalhin nila for the shoot.

And before we parted ways, we still haven't seen the set! Joskoday!

Naku! Good luck to us. This calls for a novena.

January 21 - Heels for my Heels

When my sister noticed that my uncle had a limp, she asked him if he had arthritis. He firmly denied it and said that's just the way he walks. My sister said, you wouldn't change the way you walk for no reason. Most probably, he was feeling some pain and he adjusted his gait so he wouldn't feel it anymore.

That's exactly what I've done. And it seems to work. Ever since I've felt that pain on my heels, medyo iniiwasan ko na to put too much pressure on them. And you know what seems to work? Wearing heels! (Or wedge shoes, as I have done.) Since the pressure is more on the toes, hindi na siya masyadong masakit. Galing 'no? Makabili nga uli ng sapatos...

January 20 - Our Anniversary

Twenty-one years ago, sinagot ko si Oca. Ang baduy ng set-up. We were watching a movie - "Pepe 'n Pilar" starring Maricel Soriano and Roderick Paulate, if my memory serves me right. Tapos, Oca grabbed my hand and proposed. Ganun?! Baduy!

January 19 - Ji Hoo in the Rain

photo from mymessydrawer.wordpress.com
I remember watching an episode of "Boys Over Flowers" where Ji Hoo, one of the male leads, emotes under the rain. Dramatic moment siya dapat. I forget why. Pero siyempre his hair just refuses to get drenched. Ano 'yun -- may waterproofing?
